Automating replies
How to automate replies to Google reviews
Google Business Profile has no automatic replies. Here are the options that work, where templates go wrong and how to keep difficult reviews under your control.

Does Google Business Profile reply automatically?
No, Google Business Profile has no setting that publishes replies to reviews automatically. Every reply is posted by an owner or manager of the profile, from Google Search, Google Maps or the Google Maps app. Google checks the text before it appears, which usually takes up to 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days, and the reviewer is notified. See Google's help on replying to reviews.
Google also lets you draft replies in Gemini, but only if you own a single verified profile, and you still publish the reply yourself. See Google's help on Gemini for businesses.
Three ways to automate replies
There are three ways to automate replies: speed up the manual routine, connect a third-party service or build your own integration with the API.
- Manual, but faster. Notifications for new reviews, a few prepared openings and one person in charge. It costs nothing, but it takes time every day.
- A third-party service. The service connects to your profile with your permission, drafts a reply in your business's style and publishes it after your approval or according to a rule you set.
- Your own API integration. The Google Business Profile API lets you publish replies to reviews of verified locations. You need a developer, access to the API and ongoing maintenance. See Google's documentation.
Why templates are risky
A single template saves minutes, but customers notice: according to BrightLocal's 2026 survey of US consumers, generic or templated replies put off 50% of consumers. Google also advises against sending everyone the same thank-you and suggests replying to the point. A template cannot see a complaint about a specific dish, cannot check facts and may thank someone for a one-star review. See the BrightLocal Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 and Google's tips on reviews.
The 1–3 star rule: approval first
The safest rule is this: a person should look at every review rated 1–3 stars before a reply goes out, and only replies to 4–5 star reviews should be published automatically. A negative review often contains facts to check, such as the visit date, the order or an employee's name. A mistaken apology or a promise of compensation becomes public at once. A thank-you for five stars is predictable, so a rule can handle it.
Automate replies, not review selection
You can automate replies, but not the choice of who is asked for a review. Google prohibits discouraging negative reviews, selectively asking only happy customers (known as review gating) and offering incentives for reviews. Ask every customer in the same way and reply to every rating. See the Google Maps content policies and how to collect reviews honestly.
How it works in MapsReply
MapsReply prepares automatic replies to Google reviews in your business's style: your MapsReply business profile sets the tone, services and rules. By default, you approve replies to 1–3 star reviews in your workspace or Telegram. You switch automatic mode on separately and choose the ratings yourself. The service does not sell Google Maps positions and does not influence who leaves a review.

Frequently asked questions
Does Google allow replying to reviews through third-party services?
Yes. Google provides an API for publishing replies, and its rules cover what a reply says, not how it is published. A reply must be relevant and free of personal data and advertising, and Google checks it before it appears.
Can I reply automatically only to 4–5 star reviews?
Yes, and it is a sensible start. In MapsReply you switch automatic mode on separately and choose the ratings, and by default reviews rated 1–3 stars wait for your approval.
What does a service need to reply on behalf of a business?
A verified Business Profile and your permission to access it, which you give by signing in with your Google Account. Without verification, Google does not let you reply to reviews, even manually.
Will customers notice that a reply is automatic?
They will if it is a template. A reply that mentions a detail from the review and sounds like your business reads as an ordinary conversation. That is why your business profile, your examples and your own check of difficult cases matter.
Will automatic replies move my business up in Google Maps?
There is no guarantee. Google explains that local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and it recommends replying to reviews to show that you value your customers. No honest service promises a specific position on Google Maps. See Google's explanation.
How much do automatic replies cost?
In MapsReply the price depends on your monthly reply allowance, and you can try the service without a bank card. Current pricing for your country is on the home page.
